How conversion works

To convert between two currencies, the amount is multiplied by the exchange rate, which is how many units of the target currency one unit of the source currency is worth.

Converted = amount × (rate to / rate from)

Rates are pulled from a free public feed relative to the euro, then cross-calculated for any pair you choose. They are cached in your browser for an hour so reloads stay fast and work even if the feed is briefly unavailable.

What moves exchange rates

Exchange rates shift constantly with interest rates, inflation, trade balances, and market sentiment. A currency tends to strengthen when its central bank raises rates or its economy looks stable, and weaken when the opposite is true.

The figures here are mid-market rates, the neutral reference used between banks. They are ideal for checking value, but a bank, card, or transfer service will usually add a margin, so treat the result as a benchmark rather than the exact amount you will receive.

Frequently asked questions

How often do exchange rates update?

The rates come from a free public feed that refreshes roughly once a day, and the tool caches them for an hour. The updated line shows when the data was last refreshed.

What is the mid-market rate?

It is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices that banks trade at, with no margin added. It is the fairest reference rate, but providers usually add a markup, so your real conversion may differ.

Will I get this exact rate from my bank?

Usually not. Banks, card networks, and money apps add a spread or fee on top of the mid-market rate, so expect to receive a little less than the figure shown here.

Why are some currencies missing?

The list only shows currencies the rate feed currently provides. If a currency is unavailable from the source, it is hidden so you cannot pick a pair that has no rate.

Does this work offline?

If rates were loaded earlier in your session they are cached for an hour and reused. If the feed cannot be reached, the last cached rates are shown with an outdated note.
