How it works

A discount lowers a price by a percentage. The two modes cover the questions people actually ask in a shop: what will I pay, and how big is this deal really.

Final price = original × (1 - discount / 100)You save = original - finalDiscount % = (original - sale) / original × 100

For example, 25% off €200 saves €50 and leaves €150. Going the other way, an item cut from €200 to €150 is a 25% discount.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the price by the discount as a decimal to get the saving, then subtract it. A 25% discount on €200 is €50 off, leaving €150.

How do I find the discount percentage?

Divide the amount saved by the original price and multiply by 100. Saving €50 on a €200 item is a 25% discount.

Can I stack two discounts?

Stacked discounts apply one after the other, not added together. 20% then 10% off is not 30% off; the second comes off the already reduced price, which works out to 28% in total.

What is the difference between percent off and amount off?

Percent off scales with the price, while a fixed amount off is the same on any item. A €10 coupon is a big discount on a €20 item but small on a €200 one.

Does the final price include tax?

This tool works on the price you enter. If that price excludes VAT, add it afterward with the VAT calculator, since shops usually apply discounts before tax.
